At first there was John Carpenter’s all time classic cult sci-fi trash movie DARK STAR made 1974, with a ridiculously low budget he reportedly borrowed from his aunt.
The story features four astronauts in deep space, whose mission is to destroy unstable planets in star systems which are to be colonised. The late Commander Powell is stored in deep freeze, where he is still able to offer advice. As their mission nears completion, they must cope with a runaway alien which resembles a beach-ball, faulty computer systems, and a “smart bomb” who thinks it is God.
Later, in the early 90’s of the last century of the last millenium, four die hard sci-fi AND baseball fans in Vienna, Austria started a baseball team and in commemoration of this great movie they called themselves “DARK STARS“. Also they thought their ball playing was as bad as the movie was. They played hard, lost a lot but also won sometimes, till short before the dawn of the new millenium the team was dissolved.
In 2006 a revival of the team was started, a new logo designed, new uniforms and the original founding members found themselves on the diamond again, but unfortunately till 2010 couldn’t really recruit any new players, and also where ridden by numerous private problems which even led them to call their training sessions “onfield therapy”.
Players couldn’t be recruited, but people never ceased to ask for shirts or clothes sporting that cool logo, and so the idea of a DARK STARS clothing label was born, but still had to slumber for a while in the head of the logo’s creator.
BUT NOW, FINALLY…in 2011 DARK STARS merchandise is available to the general public, high quality textiles with high quality prints.
A clothing label for all that live true to our creed:
You think the gods and stars are not with you? You have the feeling the Universe is against you? No matter how hard you try, it never works out, no matter how much you love, you end up alone. This, my friend, might be a sure sign that you are a child of DARK STARS .
But you are not alone, there are thousands like you. And you can embrace your DARK STARS, live with them, wear them as a sign that you are different, that you are unique, that you keep fighting no matter how hard they try to keep you down.
DARK STARS are no religion, no philosophy, no prediction of a way out of this mess. It’s just a sign, a message to the world.
